Those important two fingers
Here's a short video explaining the importance of Schulz's instructions concerning squeezing a little more with the bottom fingers...and reference to Hill's teaching to "get a hold of it, heel the bow".
I hope this helps a little

Shoot straight.
That’s the best explanation I’ve heard yet of grasping an ASL.
ReplyDeletefinally a great explination of how to grip an ASL correctly with good pictures demonstrating
Deletemuch appreciated
Another great explanation. Thank you Nate!
ReplyDeleteVery good explanation of one of the most misunderstood parts of the Hillstyle of shooting.
ReplyDeleteThat was my intent. Thanks
DeleteSuper video Nate and an excellent explanation of the grip. This will help many who struggle with Hill's suitcase comments and your clear visual demonstration should put
ReplyDeletemuch of the debate to bed.
Nate.. i am very happy to see that you brought up the two bottom fingers. that was the best demonstration I have seen anyone do in many years. After I was taught this by one of the best archers I have ever met my shooting improved greatly. I think you have an idea who I am talking about.
ReplyDeleteYessir Rod. Schulz was the man!
DeleteAgreed on a great explanation on how to grip the ASL! REALLY enjoying this blog.
ReplyDeleteThis is great Nate, and again the video is very helpful. I stumbled onto gripping with my bottom two fingers when I realized it helped me overcome my terrible habit of dropping my bow arm. In fact my follow through is better at bow and anchor when I do this.
ReplyDeleteI always knew the suitcase "method" but never knew the HOW or WHY. This helps a lot. excellent explanation. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNate, I'm in my first year of shooting an asl, a HH Cheetah. I'd known from start the importance of what I call, full grip-life line centered, but I'd never heard mention of this "suit case grip". Must admit after watching this few weeks back, I first thought "Ah"! But I started paying attention and focused on doing it. Now all I can say is WOW, Consistency! This little tech has proved to be so important and I'm getting it now! Thanks Very Much for the video, without it, I'd never even paid any attention!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT makes sense to me. Thanks Nate
ReplyDeleteSqueezing those two fingers are what help me know I am heeling the bow properly. That, and a good followthrough are the keys to shooting for me. Nate's video on this makes it SO easy understand why it works.
